The Oakley Arctic Challenge Searching New Venue and Host Resort
0Norway: The Swatch TTR SIX(6) STAR Oakley Arctic Challenge (TAC) 2008 in Holmenkollen was a success with 7000 spectators, a new competition format and all time high exposure. Unfortunately the Holmenkollen Ski Jump arena will be re-built for the ski world championships in Oslo in 2011. TAC does not have an arena in Oslo for the 2009 season and the organiser is searching a new venue and host resort – in or outside Norway. (more…)
Oakley Women’s Snow Camp in Austria
0Oakley Women’s Camp kicked off today in Hintertux, Austria with a star coaching crew of Gretchen Bleiler, Anne-Flore Marxer and Silvia Mittermuller. Each camper was handpicked from her application and interview by Oakley to participate in this 3-day camp which includes riding clinics, spa treatments and, of course, traditional Austrian lodge dinners. The sun is shining, it snowed a couple feet on the glacier this week and the park is perfectly groomed. Within a day, the 3 riders had the girls doing tons of new tricks from alley oops in the pipe to frontside 360’s over the rollers. And, of course, what would this European celebration be without an après dance party hosted by the dancing queen herself, Anne-Flore and a healthy stock of Gretchen’s new favorite drink recently introduced to her by Silvia, the lemonade/beer mixture, Radler. 05-06 Oakley The Community Project Review
0This is a surprise of a video, it’s super happy.
Kicking off with an energetic soundtrack and a trip to New Zealand, this whole film is a blast. It is way fast paced and filmed with a sharp eye. From a good long section in New Zealand, to a rail session in New York City, to some of the cleanest, most beautifully shot half pipe footage in Aspen. And that isn’t all; there’s Jackson, Mammoth, Japan, Norway, Alaska, and it just keeps going. The strength of this film is found in three things, the cast of riders is a relatively short list and so it is focused more on the adventure; the music really compliments every moment; and hands down the filming. From crazy to calm, grainy to sharp, colorful to bland, I am sure there are official terms for the different techniques, but whatever, it rules. There isn’t much to the extras, but you can watch each rider’s condensed part. It doesn’t really need much more.
02-03 Oakley A-Frame Review
0For half the price of boots, these goggles are so worth it. I mean, why should just your feet be happy?
2005 Update: The same pair I started out reviewing are the same pair I wear today, EVERY DAY.
If you are willing to pay the price, you will end up with great product. Personally, I would have paid TWICE the price for these. The only trouble I ran into was a slight amount of fogging in heavy snow, but nothing that stayed around for long. With the triple layer of foam for comfort and ventilation, these flexible urethane goggles will definitely become part of your face. The visual field and peripheral vision, as a result of Polaric Ellipsoid geometry, is much greater than in most goggles. To cut to the chase, I fell in love with these goggles because of their comfort and really good looks. They, in my opinion, are the best helmet and non-helmet goggles out there. The A Frames come in lots of great color choices.
02-03 Oakley A-Frame Review
0The A-Frame is one of my two favorite pairs of goggles; and I’ve tried them all.
Oakley has always been considered the pinnacle of high-quality eyewear; so it was with great anticipation that I took the A-frame out for review. My first experiences with them at Steamboat were great. I had little-to-no fogging, even in the intense snowfall that we met there. Only after slingshoting them into a snowbank and caking the inside with snow did they start to fog, in other words the goggles are mortal, but just barely. After the use of a hand-dryer the goggs stayed fog-free for the rest of the day.
The A-frames are super stylish. Although several other goggle companies make goggles that have large vents, Oakley did pioneer the vented look, and the goggles still ooze style. I couldn’t detect any distortion from the curved lenses, and the coating they use seems pretty impervious to scratching.
These definitely aren’t the cheapest goggles on the market, but the price is well suited to the function and style of the goggles.
