Burton Tokyo Rail Days Results

“With Burton Rail Days, we wanted to bring a legitimate exhibition of urban riding to the center of Tokyo,” said Greg Dacyshyn, Chief Creative Officer at Burton Snowboards. “Roppongi Hills Arena is an iconic destination in Tokyo, and seeing this urban center transformed into a full winter festival with music, kids snowboard lessons and a world-class rail competition was incredible. It was a next-level event and everyone from the riders to the crowd had an amazing time.”

In the end, it was Jamie Nicholls from Great Britain who won the entire event with two super strong runs: one that included a frontside boardslide 270 out on the down rail and another run that included a frontside boardslide change-up boardslide on the down rail. Dylan Alito came in second place with a frontside boardslide on the ledge and a second run that included a hardway frontside 270 frontside boardslide on the ledge. Ethan Deiss claimed third place with a frontside 180 switch nosepress and a second run that included a frontside 270 frontside boardslide to fakie – both on the down rail. And Shoma earned fourth place with a transfer 50-50 on the kink rail in one run and a transfer boardslide on the kink rail in his other high-scoring run.

Jamie Nicholls had this to say about his win, “When they announced that I won, I honestly couldn’t believe it, especially because there were so many amazing riders there and everyone smashed it,” said Jamie. “The crowd was amazing – let’s just say that I love Japan, Tokyo and everyone there.”

Burton “Rail Days” in Tokyo

0

Burton Rail Days gives the city of Tokyo the rare chance to see some of the world’s best street snowboarders in action at a free outdoor event.

The event will start with 16 top invited riders throwing down on the biggest rail feature ever constructed for a snowboard event in Tokyo. Built by the world’s leading snow park and halfpipe designers, Snow Park Technologies, the Burton Rail Days course is designed to look like an actual street corner, complete with street lamps, stairs, handrails, a brick façade and a mailbox to session. There’s also a quarterpipe at the top of the stair set for riders to drop in from, and urban features like cement ledges give the riders plenty of room to get creative.

“I’m super stoked to head over to Tokyo for the Burton Rail Days event,” said Burton team rider Ethan Deiss. “I’ve seen a few drawings of the set up, and it looks really solid. Just hanging out in Tokyo is so much fun, let alone getting to snowboard in the city and compete in a rail contest. It’s going to get crazy.”

If your kids are looking to hone their jedi skills this winter, look no further. Burton Snowboards and Lucasfilm just announced their limited edition Star Wars™ licensed collab board and gear for the 2012 season. The collaboration includes a full line of Star Wars themed Chopper mini snowboards, and best of all, an R2D2 helmet.

RED Avid Grom R2D2 285x300 These are not the groms youre looking for
I think this helmet is long overdue. We’ve had just about every other possible helmet graphic, and lets be honest, who doesn’t want an R2D2 helmet? While you probably can’t get a kids XXXXL to fit your big melon, you can grab one for your favorite grom. The Avid is a year-round helmet, certified for use on snow, or while biking or skating. Plus, next time ski patrol is chasing your kids, you can just wave your hands, and in your best Alec Guinness voice say: “These are not the groms you’re looking for”

Keep reading, there are more photos and the full press release available after the break.

Burton brings it back to the roots with Carhartt collab

0

From 686′s Levis to Union Bindings many offerings, I love a good collab; and Burton’s nailed it with this one. I grew up in Alaska, raised on the philosophy that a good pair of Carhartts was one of the essentials in life. When I first learned to snowboard it was in Carhartts pants and Sorel boots. I still have a pair of Carhartt work pants, and I still have good mud boots, but it’s been a long time since I’ve ridden in them.

Burton tried this a year or two ago, and it flopped pretty badly – mostly because they just slapped the Carhartt label on a generic set of outerwear. I’m stoked they did it right this year:

The Burton x Carhartt WIP jacket is based off of one of Carhartt’s most popular and rugged designs, aptly called the Traditional. For this project, the special co-branded edition is constructed from a double layer GORE-TEX® Performance Oxford shell featuring fully taped seams protected by 13 mm GORE-SEAM® tape. Further, the authentic work style cut of the Traditional has also been modified, to create a better streetwear silhouette and overall snowboard fit. Other design features include a removable contour hood and corduroy detailing, as well as chest and hand warmer pockets.

The Burton x Carhartt WIP pant is modelled after Carhartt’s classic Single Knee pant, also slightly modified by the collective design team for a better snowboard meets streetwear fit. Fabrication on the pant is also second to none, featuring the double layer GORE-TEX® Performance Oxford shell and GORE-TEX® taped seams. The Burton x Carhartt WIP jacket and pant can be connected via a removable waist gaiter with jacket-to-pant interface for added protection. Both pieces are offered with Burton’s lifetime guarantee.

And if you really want that classic 80s grunge snowboarder look, you can combo it up with the 2012 Ox boot.

Anon has expanded their goggle collection to include two new frames for 2012. The Comrade joins the Anon family as the largest frame in the line. Its size and spherical lens mimic the curvature of the human eye, and are designed to provide excellent optical clarity. I had the opportunity to ride them a bit last spring, and will have a full review out soon.

Read more about the new lenses and website features, and scope the new rad new Anon ad after the break.

John Jackson has joined the Burton team, rocking both hard and softgoods for the big B.

“It’s rad to be a part of such an insane company and team who’ve paved the way in snowboarding since the beginning,” said John Jackson. “I can’t wait for the snow to fly to test out some new gear and let ‘er rip. It’s an honor.”

John was the first snowboarder in history to win the Transworld Reader Poll ‘Video Part of the Year’ twice, and he also took home his second consecutive ‘Rider of the Year’ award. This year, John continues to blow minds with his part in the highly acclaimed movie, Art of Flight.
