98-99 Mt. Ashland Review
Ashland is small, but surprisingly packed with a good variety of challenging terrain. Overall, Ashland will keep you entertained as long as there is snow to keep the trees fresh.
Mt. Ashland is a smaller mountain that is owned by the state of Oregon. It snowed about five inches throughout the day, which kept the trails nice and the trees great. Ashland's strong point is definitely the tree riding. There is a bowl, but it was closed due to low visibility and wind.
Most of the groomed runs are of intermediate difficulty level; however, the tree runs are fairly challenging, often surprising you with unsuspecting twists of the trail. Throughout the trees there are also some great tree slides of varying sizes. At the top there are some well shaped wind lips and gaps. About half way through the day the wind really picked up and obscured most of the trails. It was nearly impossible to see, in fact we couldn't find the lodge even though it was only about 300 feet away (it was insane). If you are in the area, check Ashland out, it is sure to keep you entertained.
