Summary:
Not only functional, it is a pretty coat that fits well and works for when I need to be more dressed up but warm. It is not just rugged outdoor wear but you can definitely be rugged in it, it can handle it!
Review:
This parka accidentally underwent a special use-test and passed with flying colors. It just so happened (long story) that one day I ended up literally dripping from head to toe with gasoline. I was finishing getting gas before a job interview and somehow pulled out the nozzle while still holding the trigger. Gas sprayed all over me, the car and the jacket. A truly Zoolander moment. In a moment of panic, (I mean what do you do with a gas-soaked down jacket?) I went to a nearby bathroom and shoved the jacket to fit into the too-small sink where I ran water and hand soap over it. I then put it, soaking wet, into a bag and took it across town to a laundry mat. I washed the heck out of it; at that point I didn't care about washing directions. I shoved it in the washer with a whole package of liquid soap (which it said not to use, I later read). After washing the coat, I put it in one of those industrial driers that practically bakes your clothes. The coat dried in a record 30 minutes or so. It came out smelling tropical, sparkling clean and no worse for the wear. There's a story on what not to do to your gear, with a happy ending.
This story can only begin to explain how pleased I have been with this coat, especially because of it's warmth in colder temperatures. On the cold-cold (like -30F) days, it is my jacket of choice. It has a zip-off hood, a good snow skirt, it attaches to snowpants and has comfy pockets and vents. It is tailored to fit snuggly, but does not limit movement. All that, and it still rides like a snowboard jacket on the hill, comfortable, non-restrictive, and stylin.
