Generic in look and fit but making up for it in warmth, comfort and durability the lightweight bottoms do serve as a good insulator. In bitter cold, especially if for some reason you are going to be sitting in the snow (a beginner?) you may want something with more padding and thickness, but these work well doubled up with a second pair, so there is a lot of flexibility.
