09-10 Columbia Sportswear Stormtrooper Jacket Review

A waterproof/ breathable all mountain jacket at a very reasonable price. Extra pockets for all your goodies!

This jacket exceeded all of my expectations in the technical arena. Breathable and waterproof, I tested this jacket hiking and riding in a snowstorm and shoveling a foot of snow over a couple hours. I stayed comfortable and dry throughout. Light insulation coupled with a supple exterior fabric keeps this jacket clean and functional.
This piece is packed full of standard features found on garments twice as expensive. Adjustable powder belt, detachable helmet-compatible hood and insulated audio pocket make this jacket a great value. Additionally I counted ten pockets on this garment, allowing you to carry everything but the kitchen sink with you on the hill.
Added benefits include you friends never losing you on the hill due to the technicolor mash-up of green, blue and white print!
Baggy fit.

09-10 Chaos Herman Review

If you want to look like you are wearing a condom on your head, well this hat is for YOU!

I just can’t get over how goofy I look wearing this hat. While you could fold it over to flop the top down, I prefer to wear it fully extended. It adds 10" to my overall height and tends to give passerby’s a chuckle as they try not to stare at the reservoir tip extending from your melon.
A light weight hat best for trips to the mailbox and that spring concert at your local hill. Made in Canada.

09-10 Buff The Original Buff Review

An easy to wear, low-profile extra layer to keep your face warm and supple on the coldest of days.

So the people of Buff have found over twenty different ways to wear this thing on your head, neck and face. A few look pretty goofy if you ask me, however looking goofy on the hill is acceptable if you are protecting your "mug" from the elements of winter.

I tend to wear my Buff as a standard neck warmer/ face mask on cold mornings. The fleece lower on this piece feels great on bare skin and acts surprisingly well as a snot absorber. The upper half is comprised of a super soft technical microfiber. It's quick drying and compact enough to throw into a pocket as the day warms.

I don't anticipate my Buff falling apart anytime soon. The stitching appears to be quite bomber, manufactured in Spain and washing machine friendly.

Given it's versatility, I'd recommend this piece to anyone who's idea of fun is catching first chair on a sub zero powder day.

09-10 DC Salen X Review

I have worn these pants many times and because of the material they are made of and their quality, they look like I have just pulled them off the rack in the store.

I love these snowpants! Subtle animal print, cute buttons and trim all say "I know I am cute; don't underestimate me!" By their looks, you wouldn’t believe how technical and heavy duty they are. They serve as much more than a shell and are insulated to keep winter cold out. For someone who is always cold, one pair of long underwear suffices on the colder days, and when it is warm, a shant or lighter weight pair of long underwear.  They don't look bulky.

They are super long and steeze through in through, which means of course that I have been walking over the pant legs for days.  They are holding up fairly well. The two-toned matte/ shiny black soft outer material makes it so that scuffs really do not show.

The pockets are large, easy to access and unobtrusive; there is even a small pocket on the inside. The only oddity is that the cargo pockets wrap around the back of the knee slightly and are harder to get into on lifts, but otherwise they are well planned out. They have loopholes to hang a pass on or to hang them on a door; they have Velcro inside the waist for size adjustment; and they have rockin suspenders that easily attach and detach.

09-10 Nobis Burgers Review

This hat provides one way to mix up your everyday look.

At first glance, the Burgers hat makes me think of Fargo or Grumpy Old Men or a lumberjack. From a distance it is a solid colored brimmed hat with earflaps. But up close, and paired with sweet outerwear, it really stands out on a male or female. It is the little things that make Nobis hats stand out. The chunky knit pattern is angled in an upward curve, it has the expected Nobis bling in the form of a plaid square of material and a Nobis medallion, and the inside is lined with extremely soft velvet. At first, I wondered why it didn't have ties from the ear flaps like most hats of its kind have. It would be nice when it is colder to be able to secure it to the ears. However, the lack of strings hanging off it causes the earflaps to slightly flip out from the ears for a pleasantly whimsical look.

09-10 Buff Merino Wool Review

This lightweight layer will keep you warm but has the possibily of being a bit rough against your face.

This Merino is warm, even though it is very thin material, dries quickly, but is a bit scratchy. The neckie is a long tube that goes over the head and around the neck and it doesn't have much weight or bulk. It washes well and is useful on cold mornings when you need a layer for your face that you know you are going to want to shove in a pocket later (it folds up a lot smaller than a fleece neckie). The only drawback is the itchiness because of the wool; it becomes rougher as it is dampened by snow, breath or sweat. It is tolerable and doesn't prevent me from wearing it (as it is such an easy, warm layer to keep in a pocket), but definitely a downside in its functionality.

09-10 DC Sutton Review

The Sutton is a beautiful work horse of a jacket.

This jacket has style, length, comfort and will very quickly win you over in its functionality for snowboarding. The sophistication comes from its large buttons, a high neck , and a belt (which you actually have to secure when you wear the coat because it looks funny just hanging). The external wrist cuffs are styled out, while inside there are cuffs that disallow snow from going down your sleeve. One oversight in the visual presentation of this jacket is found along the front zipper. A flap with artificial buttons zips up the front and makes it look really cute without the effort of needing to button multiple buttons. However, there is so narrow a strip of material to cover the zipper that it gives away the fact that it isn’t actually a jacket that you button at all.

Hot or cold, it is a heavier shell and will go well over a t-shirt or over several thick layers. Its length is great for covering up the days when you want to wear butt pads and don’t want to look like you have gained 10 pounds. With the low sitting belt and the bottom of the jacket coming down to the thighs, you could wear pillows underneath your snowpants and nobody would know.

Inside and outside there are large, numerous pockets, including one to put your music in. The high neck is lined with really soft fleece-like material and has magnets to close it and keep you snuggly. One drawback is that adding your own bandana or neckie to your layering won’t work well because the magnets can’t reach each other to close. It does come, however, with a built in balaclava that snaps in and out or folds into a small pocket!

I am impressed with the soft feel of the fabric and protection it provides from the elements. Though it could serve nicely as a town-coat, it really is created for snowboarding and being on the hill all day.

09-10 Burton Power Stretch Liner Review

Great glove for any time you need dexterous fingers – for example: teaching, taking photos, or pickpocketing.

The Power Stretch Liner Glove isn’t the one glove to rule them all, but is a great under glove for riders who need their hands free. I primarily picked them up for photography, with the intention to wear a thin glove or mitt over them.

The gloves are actually a thin fleece shell, and as such are not waterproof; they are however pretty warm on their own.

The palm is called the Sticky Icky Grip Palm, and it is super sticky, giving you a good grip on whatever it is your holding.
