test out some new gear and let ‘er rip. It’s an honor.”

This weekend, John will be celebrating his news by joining the team and the entire
company at the annual Fall Bash, hosted by Burton owners Jake and Donna Carpenter.

Introducing a Special Early Release, Gnu “Ladies Choice” The Jamie Anderson Edition

Seattle, WA (September 1, 2011) – Gnu introduces the special, early release of “Ladies Choice” a snowboard designed for and with full input from Jamie Anderson, the world’s most progressive female freestyle rider. Starting this fall in a limited edition run, Gnu shares the snowboard that helped Jamie to win virtually every major slopestyle competition last season. The Ladies Choice blends Jamie’s favorite shapes, flexes and geometries with many of Gnu’s award winning technologies including Magne-Traction, Pickle Tech and C2 Power Banana contours for a proven winning combination.

“It’s amazing! This board is designed for my riding style and everything I like to do,” Jamie says of the Gnu Ladies Choice. “It’s the best board I’ve ever ridden. I couldn’t be happier!”

No woman in the history of snowboarding has dominated slopestyle and freestyle snowboarding to the extent that Jamie has over the past five years. The snowboarders with jobs at Gnu were very excited to work with her to create the ultimate freestyle performance board.

“It’s been amazing to watch Jamie progress over the years and grow into the rider she is today,” says Barrett Christy, Brand Manager for Gnu Women’s. “She has such smooth style, total confidence, and she loves snowboarding. We worked together to blend her favorite shape, flex, and tech into this really fun freestyle board. I can’t wait to see what Jamie does next on her board!”

Jamie spent her summer at home in Tahoe enjoying California’s extended winter and making subtle refinements to the “Ladies Choice” before introducing it to the world. Then she put it to a final test at the New Zealand Open and came away with first place in slopestyle, her fifth title at the contest and the MINI Creative Use of Space award for her half-cab 5-0 to b/s 180. Looking to repeat a TTR World Tour championship for the third straight year, Jamie is leading the tour rankings following this summer’s win.

Technology included:
Pickle Tech: Balance through Asymmetry. Jamie knows there’s a huge difference between your turn mechanics on your toe-side and heel-side edges. Gnu’s Pickle Tech asymmetric sidecuts perfectly balance nature’s asymmetry.

Magne-Traction: Serrated edges give great edge hold, slide boxes and rails with ease and allow Jamie to set up for big park jumps with complete confidence.

The celebrating continues for freestyle phenom John Jackson who over the weekend at the Transworld Snowboarding Riders’ Poll Awards took home top honors, receiving awards for both Rider of the Year and Video Part of the Year for his closer in Forum’s FOREVER. Also nominated for Rider of the Year and deserving of a shout-out was Forum’s Pat Moore who had an equally insane season – yeah, Pat! With votes coming from the best of the best in snowboarding, John J is definitely feeling the love right now. Plus, you know you’ve done well when Pam Anderson hands you your award along with a kiss. “This is a major accomplishment for me, it feels insane!” says Jackson. “Thanks to all the voters and to everyone who put their love and support into Forum’s FOREVER. The team, the filmers, the photogs and the big dogs behind the desks all worked really hard to make this project what it was, and give us the opportunity to do what we love. I’d like to thank Forum, Special Blend, Von Zipper, LRG, Bryan Knox, Jason Issacs, Nathan Yant, Jeremy Pettit, Kurt Heine, Ian Ruhter, Tim Peare, Kevin Keller, GT, the Hatchet brothers, Bob Marley, all the riders, my family who’s always been there for me no matter what, and God for making it all possible. This was a joint effort and I can’t express my gratitude enough! Thank you, bless up, and let’s get ready for another amazing year! Much luv.”

What a night it was for John and the entire Forum crew – congrats, man!

Akinz Team Riders Damon Butler and Erika Vikander bringing home nothing but wins.

As the winter season heats up with all sorts of jib jams blowing up, the Akinz Team riders are proving their worth! Erika Vikander and Damon Butler are making a splash in slopestyle sessions all over the US.

The Canyons hosted their 3rd annual New Years Eve rail jam on Thursday, December 31. They went all out this year. The setup was awesome! After a long jam session, with a lot of riders going down to fatigue, we found our Akinz team rider, Erika Vikander, in first place. Straight from the winner’s mouth, “I hope The Canyons continues to put on events like this. It was so nice to go to an event that was well maintained and FUN! The crowd was pumped, live music, fireworks, what more could you ask for?” With nothing stopping her now Erika has gone on to take 1st place in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour – slopestyle in CA as well! This lands her a spot in the finals taking place the first weekend of February in Vermont.

Erika is a well-rounded rider who grew up at Bridger Bowl in Montana, but now stores her stuff in Salt Lake City. Competing since 2004 has landed her a lot of experience as well as a sponsorship with Shred Betties Magazine. Just last season, she killed it at multiple Canyons jams, Nikita Chickita, Campus Rail Jam series, Supergirl comp, and the Queens Cup comp…. definitely a girl on the rise.

Damon Butler is a snowboard slopestyle competitor out of Steamboat Springs, CO, who has recently joined the Akinz team. He’s one of those riders that is super focused, super committed, but always has time to stop and help somebody out with whatever they’re working on. He’s super fun to ride with as you’ll just be chilling along a run when all of a sudden he spins a back flip off a bump you barely saw. He can throw backside double corks off kickers and doesn’t even break a sweat. If you catch him before he makes it big, you’ll find him jibbing around Steamboat Ski Resort often in his fave Akinz Slice n Dice Tee, or even book a lesson with him at the Steamboat Ski and Snowboard School.

Damon made the switch from competing in halfpipe to slopestyle this season and what a great decision it was, as he recently claimed first at the USASA Rocky Mountain series in slopestyle that was held in Copper on January 9th, 2010. We expect more medals to be thrown his way soon. Watch out for his next ‘performance’ in the next USASA stop at Winter Park. We’re super excited to add him to our team and can promise you’ll be seeing his name around quite a bit.

At Akinz boardwear we love life. We want you to love life. We want you to wear our clothes and love wearing them while you are loving life. Find your wings with Akinz!

Special Blend is hyped to announce the addition of Jake Welch to its First Chair Last Call roster of talent.
