Sugarloaf to open summit for the weekend
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – Thanks to more than two feet of natural snow in the past eight days, plus a revamped and enhanced snowmaking system, guests at Sugarloaf will be skiing and riding from the mountain’s lofty 4,237 foot summit tomorrow, as some of the best early season conditions in the resort’s history continue. The summit will open to skiers and riders a mere two weeks into Sugarloaf’s 2008-09 winter season.
In addition, Sugarloaf has opened a full-size terrain park in the Stomping Grounds, and plans to open terrain in its eastern bowl, pushing its trail count close to 70 for the weekend. Sugarloaf currently features the most open terrain of any resort in the east.
“We’ve been extremely blessed with great early season snowfall, and the offseason upgrades we made to our snowmaking system have allowed us to be more aggressive during the early stages of the season,” said Rich Wilkinson, Sugarloaf’s Vice President of Operations. “All of the factors combined have enabled us to expand our terrain faster than we ever have before.”
Extended forecasts remain favorable for continued snowmaking and additional natural snow, with the most recent forecast calling for light snow Saturday night through Sunday.
The rapid terrain expansion comes just in time for the busy holiday season at Sugarloaf and guests can book Holiday Ski and Stay Packages for as little as $89 per person per night.
