Skiers and snowboarders will be happy with the new flights, now traveling to Tahoe’s premier ski and snowboard destination has become easier than ever before. The addition of a direct flight to Reno from Baltimore/Washington D.C. through Chicago is due to launch this November. Heavenly Mountain Resort has become a more accessible destination with the addition of three new non-stop flights to Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RTIA) from San Diego, Bellingham, Wash. and Chicago Midway.

heavenly New Flights to Reno Tahoe Make Heavenly More Accessible

“Air service plays a key role in any tourist destination and skiers want convenient non-stop service from their home town to their winter destination,” said John Wagnon, Heavenly’s vice president of marketing. “Lake Tahoe is one of the top snowsports destinations in North America.

It’s a natural response to introduce these non-stop flights to make our destination resort more accessible to winter travelers. Southwest Airlines is one of the most successful airlines in the world, alignment with them as the Official Airlines of Ski Lake Tahoe adds to our image as a serious snowsports destination.

With Southwest Airlines being the Official Airlines of Ski Lake Tahoe Heavenly’s personalized reservation service, Heavenly Tahoe Vacations, will be in a position to provide better, less expensive all-inclusive packages to consumers. Ultimately this will provide better value, convenience and service to skiers and snowboarders who choose Tahoe as their vacation destination.

Beginning in November, 2007, Southwest Airlines will add direct, one-stop, same-plane service to Reno from Baltimore/Washington D.C. through Chicago. In addition to providing the new Baltimore/Washington D.C. to RTIA direct flight, this schedule will also help improve load factors on the Chicago to RTIA route. The service between Chicago and RTIA that began service on
December 4, 2006 is doing very well. Adding the Baltimore/Washington D.C. originating point will further benefit the route.

Two daily non-stop flights from San Diego launched in March, 2007 have received a great response. The San Diego market, which features at least 160,000 travelers per year between Reno and San Diego, was RTIA’s largest unserved market and RTIA’s sixth largest market overall. The growth of air service to and from RTIA continues to increase, making Tahoe the most accessible winter destination in California.

Low-cost airline Allegiant Air, LLC began non-stop jet service between Bellingham, Wash. And RTIA in May, 2007. With three flights offered weekly, this is the only non-stop service between the two cities. “Allegiant’s new service to Bellingham is truly a natural fit for the Reno-Tahoe region,” said Krys Bart, executive director of Reno-Tahoe International Airport. “Residents of the Reno-Tahoe area and the Pacific Northwest share a love for the outdoors and we will enjoy helping connect our two spectacular regions through this great new service. Also, with the Winter Olympics coming to Vancouver, B.C. in 2010, this flight will be an ideal connection for our passionate winter sports fans to attend that spectacle.”

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is the gateway to America’s Adventure Place. Located at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and just 40 minutes from picturesque Lake Tahoe, the airport is just an hour from Heavenly Mountain Resort and some of the finest skiing, hiking, golfing, mountain biking and kayaking in the world.
