November 27, 2008 – Sun Peaks, BC – With snow in the forecast for the next four days, Sun Peaks Resort is working to expand the amount of terrain open to the public. On Friday morning, the 5 Mile run will be open down to the valley, providing 600 vertical metres and over 6km of skiing on Cahilty and 5 Mile.

“Crews are also working diligently on Gentle Giant, which is serviced by the two conveyor lifts,” says Anne Haight, Director of Sales and Marketing with Sun Peaks Resort Corporation. “This will provide some excellent teaching terrain for those strapping on skis or a snowboard for the first time.”

Meanwhile, it’s only $2 bucks for USA residents to ski or ride at Sun Peaks today! The money collected will be donated to the Sun Peaks Health Association and the resort is also accepting food donations for the Kamloops Food Bank. Lower Mainland residents can ski for a toonie on Friday, November 28, and Kamloops residents can enjoy Toonie Day on Monday, December 1. Proof of address is required for all Toonie Days.

Outside of the special Toonie Day offers, lift tickets remain at half price, at $35.00 for an adult ticket.

Haight says the OSV run will open for public skiing on Monday. The Austrian National Ski Team has been using the run for training since November 17. The women’s team leaves Sun Peaks for competition in Aspen on Sunday.

Mountain crews are currently assessing the Nordic trail network and are hopefing to start opening cross country terrain next week.

For activities off the slopes, the outdoor skating rink is set to open on Saturday and the heated pool and hot tubs at the Sun Peaks Sports Centre are open from 3:30pm-9pm on weekdays and 1pm-9pm on weekends and holidays.

Over 10 centimetres of snow is expected to fall at Sun Peaks on Friday and Saturday, with flurries continuing at the resort on Monday and Tuesday.
