The initial trailer (www.artofflightmovie.com) for “The Art of FLIGHT” featured a specially crafted score created by French musician Anthony Gonzalez, the man behind the electronic dream pop act, M83, and Curt Morgan, the Director of “The Art of FLIGHT.” Morgan and Gonzalez created a new band called The Three Corners of the Earth and placed the track on iTunes after the trailer came out prompting requests for the track to pour in.

“The Art of FLIGHT” Soundtrack Now Available Online

From the intro through the credits, the music featured in “The Art of FLIGHT” is now available online through http://artofflightmovie.com/store/en_us/. “The Art of FLIGHT” is a new breed of action sports film brought to life by Red Bull Media House, in association with Brain Farm Digital Cinema. Two years in the making, “The Art of FLIGHT” gives iconic snowboarder Travis Rice and friends the opportunity to redefine what is possible in the mountains. Viewers experience the highs, as new tricks are landed and new zones opened, alongside the lows, where avalanches, accidents and wrong-turns strike.

The soundtrack travels alongside the journey from the playful tree bonk and kicker segment shot in Wyoming set to the joyful sounds of The Naked and Famous’ hit song “Young Blood,” to the psychedelic riffs of the Black Angels fueling the Revelstoke spine segment. Sigur Rós, an Icelandic post-rock band, sets up dramatic avalanche footage in British Columbia, while the electronic driven “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” (Nero Remix) from Deadmau5 play off of stunning footage shot in Alaska and Album Leaf keys in a soothing introduction to Jackson, WY.

Morgan plays keys and drums and Gonzalez is on guitar. They recorded the piece for “The Art of FLIGHT” in Morgan’s Jackson, WY studio. Gonzales returns with M83 to set a dreamy stage throughout the film itself with “Intro,” “Outro” and “My Tears are Becoming a Sea ” from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, which released in mid-October.

From pulse-pounding beats to melodic instrumentals, The Art of FLIGHT soundtrack crosses musical genres featuring a variety of music from still unknown acts to this year’s breakout performers.

Second Nature Snowmaking has been selling home snowmaking kits for more thank a decade. Starting this year, they’re giving away their plans for free.

With $50 in parts, some time to assemble, and a borrowed pressure washer and air compressor, you can be making snow in your backyard any time you want (and the temperature is below 30 degrees).

Check it out, and if you build one, send us some pics.

http://www.snsnowmaking.com/

Show Press Release

Today is one of the more exciting days in my home snowmaking
career, for two reasons. First, after years of selling snowmakers
out of necessity, I no longer have to do so. Second, this means
I can go back to how things originally were and give away the
plans to my snowmakers to everyone for free.

I’m not talking about the guys that have “free” plans then make you
buy the parts from them. Rather, I list the exact places we’ve
been buying parts from all these years so you can get the best
deals and show some love to the companies that have been so helpful
to us during the last decade.

Here’s a link to the plans:

http://www.snsnowmaking.com/

The plans cover what parts you need and a few of the most
affordable places to buy them, how to assemble those parts, what
other equipment you’ll need, and how to put the whole thing
together to start making snow.

Once you make snow, head over to our Facebook page and share the
news. I’d love to see pictures of your machines in action as well
as your snow.

As a quick background, for the last decade I’ve been selling home
snowmaking machines to people all over the world. This was never my
plan, but money was tight and people wanted snowmakers. Now, I’m lucky
enough to longer need the income which is why I have made the plans
for our snowmakers free so everyone can enjoy snow, just like it
should be. No more selling, just lots of people enjoying the snowy
fun of winter like it was when I started 12 years ago

Last of all, many of you are probably wondering who won the free
snowmaker. We’ll be giving that away in a few weeks and will send
out more details then. Thanks for all your support these last few
years. Enjoy your snow

CGear recently reached out to tell us about their “Sand-Free,” multi-layered nylon weave rugs and mats. These rugs allow dirt and sand to pass through to the ground but not come back up on the mat. The product has found a wide range of uses, from beach-goers keeping sand off their towels, to military applications like heli-mats to prevent rotorwash brownouts.

From the sounds of it, the 3′x6′ Sand-Free rugs should make a perfect parking-lot changing mat. We’ll put one to the test this winter.

What do you currently use to change behind your car? Just stand in the snow, use a towel, or do you have some kind of changing mat already?

Show Press Release

New Magic Carpet Vanishes Dirt, Sand & Dust from Outdoor Activities
CGear’s Sand-Free Mat and Sand-Free Rug keep sand, dirt on the ground not on you

Whether you are a camping and RV enthusiast, a self-proclaimed beach bum, or a parent trying to keep yourself and the kids clean at the park or soccer games, CGear’s Sand-Free Mat and Sand-Free Rug are the modern world’s technological replacements for the picnic blanket. Originally developed for military applications, the unique patented construction of the Sand-Free Mat and Sand-Free Rug allows sand & dirt to fall through the weave without coming back up, creating a sand, dirt and dust-free environment.

CGear Sand-Free does not have to replace your beach towel, yoga mat or picnic blanket in all situations. You can lay your towel in the middle of the CGear Sand-Free Mat or Sand-Free Rug creating a dirt and sand-free zone around you, or sit on the Sand-Free Mat or Rug itself.

CGear Sand-Free products use a dual layer dust abatement design that keeps sand and dirt from rising to the top because of the law of gravity, and because the multiple layers create too much resistance for the particles to seep through.

The CGear Sand-Free Mat has D-rings positioned around its perimeter so it can be staked down into the earth, making it ideal for camping or as a ground cover outside of RVs. Available in three sizes, small (6×6 feet), medium (8×8) and large (10×10) and two colors, blue or orange, the starting MSRP for the CGear Sand-Free Mat is $49.99.

Designed to be more portable, the CGear Sand-Free Rug has a smooth top layer so it can be directly laid or sat on comfortably. Crafted from resilient materials, the CGear Sand-Free Rug will not absorb moisture or dirt making it the ideal blanket to keep in the car for the beach, picnics, soccer games or any other outdoor activities. Clean up is breeze you simply spray it down with a hose. No machine washing is necessary. Available in one, two or four-person sizes (a small is 3’4’’x 6’6”, medium is 5’1”x 6’6” and a large is 6’6” x 6’6”) and four colors and designs, the starting MSRP for the CGear Sand-Free Rug is $44.99.

The CGear Sand-Free Rug and Sand-Free Mat are available at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores and online at www.cgear-sandfree.com.

About CGear
CGear Australia Pty. Ltd. was established in May 2003 to hold patents that cover technology of multi-layered nylon weave, a mat that allows dirt and sand to pass through to the ground but not come back up on the mat. With continual research and development, CGear introduced products for use by the military and the outdoor recreational markets. The CGear Tactical Helimat is currently distributed in the USA, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey, India, South Korea, Portugal and Singapore.

There’s been a pretty steady stream of news from GoPro this year, first with the LCD and battery BacPacs, and now with a whole new camera, the Hero2.

The Hero2 is a pretty major upgrade, with twice the processing power and a 11 megapixel sensor (that’s twice the image detail for photos). The Hero2 also supports the new Wi-Fi BacPac and Wi-Fi Remote products that will be released later this winter and add support for video remote control from smartphones and computers.

“GoPro created a new category of camera with the HD HERO back in 2009, and it’s gone on to become one of the best selling video cameras in the world,” says Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO. “With these big shoes to fill, we invested massively in engineering the HD HERO2 to be one of the greatest, most versatile cameras of all time. We think we’ve achieved our goal and we’re very excited to see the content our customers around the world capture and share with their powerful new GoPros.”

More photos and the full press release after the break

Two of the features that most interest me are the newly upgraded burst and time-lapse modes. The Hero2 can now capture 10 stills in it’s one-second burst mode – on par with professional grade digital cameras. The automatic time-lapse photos can also now do .5 second timing between photos, allowing you to more easily capture the action in a still.

I’m also really happy to hear that GoPro redesigned the HD HERO2’s user interface for dead simple ease-of-use. According to GoPro, the “HD HERO2 features a totally new, straightforward language-based user interface that eliminates the need for instructions.” After using a Hero for more than a year, I still kept a piece of the instructions in my jacket in case I needed to make an adjustment; so needless to say, I’m stoked for this change.

GoPro® Launches HD HERO2® Camera – Announces Wi-Fi Remote Control and Video Streaming
2x More Powerful in Every Way, The HD HERO2 Democratizes Professional Image Capture and Broadcast with Support for Remote Control and Live Video Streaming from Virtually Anywhere to the Web

HALF MOON BAY, CA (October 24, 2011) – GoPro today announced the release of its new HD HERO2® camera. Twice as powerful as GoPro’s original HD HERO camera, the HD HERO2 enables consumers and professionals to capture and broadcast their lives’ most exciting moments in professional quality 1080p HD video and 11 megapixel photos. The new HD HERO2 is now available at Our Online Store, specialty retailers around the world, and at Best Buy for MSRP US$299.99.

Arguably the most versatile camera in the world thanks to its innovative mounting system, renowned durability and small form factor, the HD HERO2 surpasses its predecessor with several technology upgrades. The HD HERO2?s new processor delivers twice the processing power, taking full advantage of a new high performance 11 megapixel sensor that delivers more than twice the image detail along with professional low light performance. A totally redesigned wide-angle lens was required to take full advantage of the HD HERO2?s increased image-processing, resulting in a lens that’s twice as sharp as the previous model. And with the arrival of GoPro’s new Wi-Fi BacPac™ and Wi-Fi Remote products slated for release this winter, the HD HERO2 will enable video remote control via the Wi-Fi Remote, smartphones and devices, tablets and computers as well as enabling live GoPro video broadcast from anywhere there is Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot.

Famous for its globally best-selling HD HERO line of wearable and gear mountable cameras, GoPro spared no expense developing the HD HERO2.

2x as Powerful in Every Way:

The HD HERO2’s photo capture performance has also been significantly upgraded. In addition to much improved low light performance, the HD HERO2 can capture up to ten 11 megapixel photos in a one second burst mode as well as automatic time-lapse photos with quick .5 second timing between photos. This dramatically increases the success-rate when attempting to capture magazine cover quality photos during fast action sports and activities.

“The HD HERO2 is much, much easier to use than the original HD HERO. If you know how to use a traditional camera, you can use the HD HERO2 straight out of the box without instructions. This makes the HD HERO2 very powerful as an everyday, easy to use consumer camera while retaining all of the features, modes and performance that has made GoPro the best selling small form factor HD camera to Hollywood,” said GoPro’s Director of Product Definition, Rudy Samuels.

Specialized Right Down to the Packaging

Oakley’s latest eyepiece, the Airbrake is now available. The Airbrake is a stunning goggle and features Oakley’s new SwitchLock Technology that drastically simplifies the lens changing process. When we played with them at SIA we were pretty impressed. The SwitchLock does exactly what it promises, and makes changing lenses a snap.

It’s still an Oakley lens, which I find a bit stiff, but otherwise great to ride in. If you’re a fan of Oakley goggles though, this is a big step up.

If you can’t wait for them to show up in your local shop, you can snag a pair for $220 directly from Oakley right here: http://www.oakley.com/products/6715/25034
OAKLEY RELEASES REVOLUTIONARY NEW SNOW GOGGLE
Airbrake™ Goggle Optimized by Oakley SwitchLock™ Technology

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., October 11, 2011 – Oakley, Inc. today announced the release of Airbrake™, the world’s first snow goggle to take advantage of SwitchLock™ Technology. A revolutionary innovation available only from Oakley, SwitchLock Technology makes the process of lens changing hassle-free and fast while maintaining optimal impact protection and ensuring optical performance is in no way compromised when the lens is mounted — a potential issue with ordinary interchangeable lens systems.

“This is a leap in goggle evolution, and it was developed to serve professional skiers and snowboarders who demand the very best in convenience, performance and protection,” said Oakley CEO Colin Baden. “We started from scratch to reinvent lens interchangeability, and that meant overcoming the challenges of optical clarity and impact resistance that ordinary goggles fail to address. The result is an entirely new system that maximizes vision and protection while letting the athlete adapt quickly and easily to changing light conditions. Airbrake brings all the comfort, durability and style that pros expect from the Oakley brand, and it is available to anyone who wants to take performance to the highest elevation,” Baden concluded.

Recent winner of the X Games Superpipe competition, snowboarding superstar Shaun White will serve as an Airbrake ambassador to help Oakley spread the word about the unrivaled advantages of the new goggle. The world-famed gold medalist has been a devoted Oakley athlete since his early teen years.

With Oakley SwitchLock Technology, the Airbrake goggle lets winter athletes quickly switch to the lens tint that provides the best combination of filtering, color balance and visual contrast. An integrated lever releases the currently mounted lens so an alternate can be installed instantly with minimal handling. Even a slight bend in a lens can cause visual distortion, but when an Airbrake goggle lens is mounted securely in place, there are no stresses that could distort its shape and compromise vision.

The innovative new goggle combines a protective front zone of rigid material with a flexible O Matter® chassis. Specially engineered architecture eliminates nasal pressure and maximizes airflow while maintaining an adaptable fit, even in extreme cold. Strap outriggers balance pressure, and they are designed to work with or without a helmet. Airbrake is further enhanced with a triple layer of polar fleece face foam that wicks away moisture while evenly distributing pressure across the entire contact zone.

To fight fog buildup, Airbrake utilizes F3 anti-fog technology combined with a vented dual-lens design (one lens on top of another, affixed together). All lenses are made of durable, optically pure Oakley Plutonite® to block 100% of all UVA, UVB and UVC.

Airbrake provides premium impact protection that has become synonymous with Oakley goggle technology. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has rigorous testing requirements for impact resistance, and their Z87.1 test set is the industry’s golden yardstick. Airbrake meets every requirement of ANSI Z87.1 to offer the level of impact protection demanded by world-class athletes.

Two lenses are included with each Airbrake goggle, and additional optional lenses are available in a wide array of performance colors. They cover the performance spectrum from low light to bright sun, and they include lenses that increase visual contrast to deal with “flat” light that hides terrain detail.

Visit Oakley.com to learn more about the company’s sport performance innovations including Airbrake, and to get the latest updates on its growing family of professional athletes.

From 686′s Levis to Union Bindings many offerings, I love a good collab; and Burton’s nailed it with this one. I grew up in Alaska, raised on the philosophy that a good pair of Carhartts was one of the essentials in life. When I first learned to snowboard it was in Carhartts pants and Sorel boots. I still have a pair of Carhartt work pants, and I still have good mud boots, but it’s been a long time since I’ve ridden in them.

Burton tried this a year or two ago, and it flopped pretty badly – mostly because they just slapped the Carhartt label on a generic set of outerwear. I’m stoked they did it right this year:

The Burton x Carhartt WIP jacket is based off of one of Carhartt’s most popular and rugged designs, aptly called the Traditional. For this project, the special co-branded edition is constructed from a double layer GORE-TEX® Performance Oxford shell featuring fully taped seams protected by 13 mm GORE-SEAM® tape. Further, the authentic work style cut of the Traditional has also been modified, to create a better streetwear silhouette and overall snowboard fit. Other design features include a removable contour hood and corduroy detailing, as well as chest and hand warmer pockets.

The Burton x Carhartt WIP pant is modelled after Carhartt’s classic Single Knee pant, also slightly modified by the collective design team for a better snowboard meets streetwear fit. Fabrication on the pant is also second to none, featuring the double layer GORE-TEX® Performance Oxford shell and GORE-TEX® taped seams. The Burton x Carhartt WIP jacket and pant can be connected via a removable waist gaiter with jacket-to-pant interface for added protection. Both pieces are offered with Burton’s lifetime guarantee.

And if you really want that classic 80s grunge snowboarder look, you can combo it up with the 2012 Ox boot.
