Air to Fakie

Air to Fakie involves turning 180 degrees in the air and then riding backwards after the turn. This Snowboarding Trick is a great way of preparing yourself to get used to moving on air. This will also give you a basic idea of what it feels like to do aerial maneuvers.

Here's the basic steps:

STEP 1: Find a gentle slope with as little human traffic as possible. Start riding straight downhill on moderate speed.

STEP 2: To initiate the turn, twist your hips and shoulders towards the direction of the spin. Crouch down and remember to shift your weight on your back foot.

STEP 3: Lift your board - nose first and then the tail. Try to maintain your balance while doing this.

STEP 4: Jump and turn 180 degrees.

STEP 5: After the turn, land both feet at the same time. This is to divide the impact and lessen the chance of slipping when you land.

STEP 6: Ride fakie after the turn. Repeat the steps and keep on practicing until you get comfortable in turning in midair and riding backwards.

This is a question for Chris. My friends call this a frontside 180? We call an air to fakie when you grab some air on the lip of something, like the pipe. But the board does not turn so when you land you are fakie. But what do we know? None of us are pros. Just want to catch up on the right lingo.

Yeah, I think myfreestyle_08 and the site they link to are wrong on this.

As you said, Air to Fakie is used almost exclusively to describe a move in the pipe where you ride up a wall, air, and land/ride away switch (fakie) without rotating in the air.

I guess technically, and I stress technically, a 180 could be considered a form of an air to fakie, but it's definitely not the normally used terminology, and if you tell someone you just stomped a sick backside Air to Fakie off that table in the park they're not going to know what you're talking about.

Gotta love that anyone can post anything on the internet and it automatically has some credibility. Good catch on that one Chris.
