What do you do when you're on a Flat Trail?

Postby stryder » 11:42 PM Mar 19, 2009

What are some of the ways you get yourself going on flat trail or when you're stuck on one?

I am conducting research for a product that would potentially solve this problem with a collapsible ski pole that boarders can use. It might actually be more useful for back country snowboarders. Please let me know what you think any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

I also have a survey here. Please take it will only take 5 mins.

To be honest, I don't really see a product like that taking off. Most riders prefer to take their back foot out of their binding and skate, or if it's a longer distance take both out and hike.

The reality is our legs are much more powerful than our upper body; walking and skating utilize muscles in more efficient movements than trying to push yourself along with a pole.

Evidence for this can be seen in how skiers push with their poles too. I doubt you can find an experience skier who, when confronted with a flat section, keeps their legs stationary and only pushes with their poles. Instead, they make a skating movement with their legs, pushing with their poles is only a secondary movement.

But feel free to share your research.

Yes generally I do what Chris said. If I'm with a skiing friend and they're able to keep going I just steal their poles every once in a while.
