Google+ now available to everyone (that means you)
1Google updated Google+ (Google Plus) today and part of that update included moving from “field test” to “beta,” opening the door for anyone to join the emerging social network.
I received a pretty early invite to G+, and have been playing with it since pretty early in the test. Google Plus is an interesting blend of the existing social media sites, more robust and, in my opinion, far more useful than Twitter, while allowing for a blend of personal and public sharing that up until recently Facebook hasn’t allowed.
You may have noticed the G+ share button that started showing up on our pages a few weeks ago, and we’ll definitely be using the new service as much as possible heading into winter 2011/12. We’re evaluating their emerging tools like Hangouts and Huddles/Messenger, and hope to have some cool content and possibly contests using the service this winter.
Keep reading after the break for a quick look G+ video and links to join and follow us there.

State of the Industry video release from SIA
0Record snowfalls likely helped lead to record snow sports sales in the 2010/11 season, and SnowSports Industries America (SIA) committed its research team to digging deeper into the data and build a bigger picture of where our industry stands. In their new “State of the Industry” video, SIA has created a “lessons learned” that provides helpful insights into consumer spending habits, demographics, and emerging product categories.
The video is a little cheesy, but well worth a watch if you’re at all interested in the numbers behind our sport. You can watch it and read the press release after the break.

0Red Bull Media and The Art of FLIGHT released a web game on ArtofFLIGHTmovie.com today, helping you whittle away the hours while you wait for the season to start. Don’t worry, we won’t tell your boss!
It’s no Angry Birds, but the game is a surprisingly fun time waster. Two levels are available now, a bluebird day in the Alps and a night session under the Aurora (Northern Lights) in Alaska. Controls are simple and use the arrow keys, and there’s already some competitive scores being posted in the leaderboards.

Off-Snow Training: Trampolines
0One of our most commonly asked questions is “How do I prepare for a snowboard or ski vacation?” While there is no easy answer, there are a number of ways you can prepare your body and mind for a trip to the mountains. Off-snow training regiments can benefit riders in many ways, including conditioning, balance, and freestyle advancement. Snowboarding uses a diverse set of muscles; creating a work-out plan to keep them all in shape is no easy feat, considering that many of our guests ride no more than 20 days per year. I encourage my clients to train core snowboard muscles throughout the year, reducing the dreaded “day 3 burnout” and making their on-snow experience more enjoyable. There are many ways to keep your body in “snowboard shape” and your mind prepared for the next jump, the important thing is that you find one that works for you. (more…)
