SIA10 Fear and Loathing In Denver (1)

Fear and Loathing in Denver

1

SIA is always an intense, all-consuming series of events, but with the move to Denver, the 2010 show became a whole new beast. More floor space meant more brands, and so we found ourselves busier than ever tracking down what’s coming next, and from which company.

After meeting with the hundred or so companies we normally see at SIA, not to mention the after parties, we’re usually pretty wasted. But SIA.10 took it to a whole new level with two days of on-snow demos immediately following the tradeshow.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be rolling out previews from each company we met with, including photos, and mentions of any products that really caught our attention, as well as on-snow previews for select boards, boots, and bindings. For now you can check out this gallery of images, an overview of the entire trip.

October brings a wave of energy and excitement to the snowboard industry with the onslaught of new videos, and the 2009/2010 video is more intense than ever before. At current count there are almost 100 separate films on the market for winter 09/10.

Denver vs Las Vegas overview

SIA Day 4, Jan 30 2009

1

We took the final day of SIA in Las Vegas pretty easy, wandering the show checking out booths we hadn’t met with and enjoying the last hours in Vegas. Here are a few more photos we gathered to finish off the trip. (more…)

Helly Hanson collaboration with Moods of Norway

SIA.09 – Helly Hanson

0

Helly Hanson is geared a little more towards the ski side of the industry than the snowboard side, but they’re getting special notice for two things this year. First, the collaboration between Helly Hanson and Moods of Norway, an awesome set of outerwear from one of Norway’s best known brands, with patterns from one of Norway’s newest brands. Second, their partial puffy jackets, solid technical jackets with pockets of down sewn inside to keep you warm. (more…)

Bonfire Boots

SIA.09 – Salomon & Bonfire

0

Salomon and Bonfire has a great product lineup for 2010; excellent colors, great products, and a few new treats thrown in as well. Salomon’s display for the g.i.f.t. project, showing materials and energy used in their board production, was one of the most impressive “green” displays at SIA. It does a great job of communicating the impact new construction techniques can have on the environment. The

Salomon line looks great overall, but the first thing that caught my eye was Bonfire’s boots. The boots are being made in Salomon’s factory, but they are definitely not Salomon boots; different design team, and very different colorways. No big stories with Bonfire’s outerwear, but it all looks good, great colors an solid cuts. (more…)

Pro model backpack lines

SIA.09 – Dakine

1

I always enjoy the tour through Dakine’s collection, and this year’s gear is a real treat; great colorways and some excellent refinements in their catalog. Girls will definitely love the black cheetah print available throughout the line. There are tons of little features and goodies in their packs, and I really came away impressed. (more…)

Indoor rail jam

SIA Day 3, Jan 29 2009

0

Day 3 at SIA.09 started off a little slow after the night of parting at the Riders’ Poll Awards and the Skullcandy concert, but that didn’t stop us from doing the rounds. Have a look at the pictures below, and then head over to the separate coverage of Dakine, Helly Hanson, Salomon & Bonfire, and the Snowboard Mag party with DJ Muggs and Redman. (more…)

2010 Forum Youngblood

SIA.09 – The Program (Forum, Special Blend, Foursquare)

0

Forum, Special Blend, and Foursquare, the brands that make up The Program had a great showing at SIA. There are hints of Burton technology trickling down through The Program, but the three brands are still holding on to their very unique character and style. Forum, Special Blend, and Foursquare have bright and colorful lines that really stand out for 2010, and of course, like most board companies at SIA, Forum added reverse camber to their snowboard lineup. In addition, Forum created a jointed baseplate to go hand in hand with reverse camber, designed to allow the board to flex through the binding. Board standouts would be the Youngblood with a great new look, and I think everyone got a kick out of the Bob Ross collab. The Program has a huge line of gear, and this is only a sampling of it, but there’s definitely a lot to look forward to for 2010. (more…)
