New study analyzes myths concerning alpine skiing injuries

ROSEMONT, IL – Alpine skiing is often considered one of the most dangerous winter sports around, especially with the horrific crash videos replayed during the evening sports casts. However, a new study published in the November/December issue of Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach investigates and debunks 12 common myths associated with the sport.

“There are many common misperceptions about skiing safety and equipment needs,” said lead author, Robert J. Johnson, MD, Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Vermont. “Our study reviewed the literature concerning 12 of the most common topics related to skiing and determined that all or at least part of each of the myths could not be substantiated.” (more…)

MCLEAN, Va. (October 13, 2009) – Earlier today, SIA announced a fantastic incentive for those heading to the first-ever Snow Show at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver (Jan. 28-31). Venture Partners With Protect Our Winters For Green Board Graphics Contest

Silverton, CO – October 12, 2009 – Venture Snowboards is proud to announce a partnership with Protect Our Winters.

Protect Our Winters (POW) is a non-profit environmental organization formed in 2007 by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones. The organization’s mission is to reverse the global warming crisis by uniting and mobilizing the winter sports community to have a direct and positive impact on climate change. For the winter 2009/2010 season, Venture will emblazon all its Euphoria powder boards – both solid and split – with the POW logo, and donate a portion of sales from these boards to POW.

In addition, Venture and POW are sponsoring a snowboard graphic contest to increase awareness of environmental issues. Through January 1, 2010, Venture is accepting submissions of artwork that focus on winter, the environment, and activism. National Winter Get Out! Conference Brings Together Snow Sports Industry With P. E. And Recreation Professionals

Goal is to Engage Youth in Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

McLean, VA. (October 6, 2009) – The first national winter Get Out! Conference is set for December 3-5, 2009 at the Gunstock and Margate Resorts near Laconia, NH. The focus is to show physical education and recreation professionals how to introduce youth to snow sports through schools and recreational organizations. Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing will be included. Approximately 150 people, representing 75,000 youths, are expected to attend. Snow sports industry professionals are welcome to attend as well. All early bird registrants are eligible to win a jacket from Columbia Sportswear or a pair of Nordic walking poles by Leki.
