Finger Lakes Ski Season Opens Early
Author: Press ReleasePenn Yan, NY – November 20, 2008 – A late-fall burst of lake effect snow, cold weather, and extensive snow-making has allowed the two largest Finger Lakes ski resorts to open early this year: they’ll be skiing starting Friday at 9 a.m. at Bristol Mountain, south of Rochester, and Saturday at 10 a.m. at Greek Peak, south of Syracuse.
Eager skiers can check out current conditions for themselves on the resorts’ webcams: Greek Peak is at http://www.greekpeak.net/the-mountain/webcam.aspx and Bristol is at http://www.bristolmountain.com/shared_webcam.asp.
Finger Lakes skiing is close, low-cost, and family-friendly, where resorts let you say goodbye to $100 lift tickets, 30-minute lift lines and spending the day trying to find your family instead of skiing with them. Only four hours from the East Coast, this is the perfect day or overnight trip for families watching their vacation budgets this winter.
* Greek Peak, in Virgil, NY, has 32 trails, six lifts, and a vertical drop of 950 feet. An all day lift ticket (adult) is $58. http://www.greekpeak.net
* Bristol Mountain, in Canandaigua, has 33 trails, five lifts, and a vertical of 1,200 feet. An all-day ticket is $54. http://www.bristolmountain.com

All this comes to life in the Finger Lakes: the most beautiful lakes, valleys, and waterfalls surrounding historic villages and rural countryside, with the world-class wines and fresh, local food. The eleven narrow and deep ice-age lakes run north and south through 9,000 square miles of rolling hills and plunging gorges, and the best hiking, sailing, hunting, and fishing to be found. Rochester and Syracuse bookend lively small cities like Auburn, Ithaca and Geneva, and charming small towns like Skaneateles and Canandaigua - places that gave birth to Women’s Rights and Abolition and continue to create new ideas today. More than 80 wineries and winemakers produce world’s best Riesling and other wines that pair perfectly with the area’s abundant fresh and organic food.
