David Benedek Wins Best Trick at Gap Session, Again |
Author: Press ReleasePORTLAND, Ore. (March 12, 2008)—For the second time in a row, David Benedek leaves the GAP Session with the Best Trick award. This year, his winning trick was a 1080 Double Cork over an enormous 115 foot step-up gap.
Benedek also won best trick at the last Gap session in 2006. This year’s contest was bigger and better than ever with 18 competitors and 7,000 spectators filling the 1932 Olympic stadium in Garmisch, Germany.
Riders were split into two heats, each with 9 riders. One heat judged the other and the top two riders advanced to the final 4. Front side 1080’s and switch backside 9’s faired well in the contest. Chad Otterstrom managed to nearly overshoot the entire jump, and walk away unharmed, solidifying his reputation as “the real deal.”
Results:
Best Trick: Event co-founder David Benedek
Best Overall Performance: Chris Sorman of Sweden.
Longest Airtime: Chris Sorman
