DENVER, Colo. – Feb. 26, 2008 – Snow continues to blanket the Colorado Rockies making the 2007-08 season one for the record books. The first of a two part storm swept across the western region of the state yesterday leaving mounds of snow in its wake. The second wave of the storm further steeped the state in snow last night and today resorts are enjoying the 60th powder day of the season (calculated as at least one resort receiving 5 or more inches of new snow).

The southwest portion of the state leads by the sheer volume of snow they’ve received this winter. As of this morning, Wolf Creek Ski Area has had nearly 41 feet of snow this season to date and neighboring Silverton Mountain is reporting 37.5 feet for the season.

Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort has 20 inches of fresh snow from this last storm system, which also brought Monarch Mountain to its season to date total of more than 33 feet of snow. This is the third month in a row that Monarch has received more than 100 inches of snow. Both resorts have already extended their ski season as a result of the abundant winter wealth.

More than 25 feet has fallen at both Telluride and Aspen/Snowmass this winter, breaking both resorts’ snowfall record for this time of year and surpassing their annual average.

The two pronged storm has left its mark at resorts across the state as snow showers blanketed Loveland with more than 27 inches of fresh snow and Ski Cooper with 21, while Arapahoe Basin, Crested Butte and Steamboat all received 15 inches of powder. Eldora and Keystone each received a foot or more of snow and Winter Park’s 10 inches has boosted their season to date snowfall total to 21 feet.

On Colorado’s western slope, Powderhorn received 8 inches of new snowfall, while Sunlight Mountain skiers and riders are enjoying more than a foot of fresh snow in the last 48 hours.

Along the I-70 corridor, Copper Mountain has received 17 inches of snow from the past storm system while Vail has received 16 inches. Season to date, 28 feet of snow has fallen at Vail and 26 feet has fallen at Beaver Creek. Breckenridge is 24 percent above average snowfall for the winter season.

Echo Mountain and Howelsen Hill have each received half a foot of fresh snow from this storm with SolVista Basin rounding out the report with 2 inches in the past 48 hours.

Many resorts have broken snowfall records already this season and Colorado’s snowiest month, March, is still to come. Snow is expected to continue to fall in the Colorado high country through today.
