We are a community of people who love our winters, and in many cases, it’s how we make our living. So it only makes sense that we unite to do whatever we can to fix the damage that’s being done to the season and lifestyle we love.

Obviously, it’s going to take cooperation on a global scale to address everything from fossil fuel emissions to renewable energy solutions - but if our community harnesses our collective energy and puts forth a focused effort, we can have a direct influence on reversing the damage that’s been done and ensure that winters are here for generations behind us.

TOYOTA’S GREEN BUBBLE BURSTING?
Toyota, one of the greenest car companies in the world, is making an about-face and attempting to derail a bill that would raise the fuel economy standard to 35 mpg by 2020. Please let Toyota know that we desperately need higher fuel economy standards to stop global warming. www.toyota.com/about/contact/index.html?s_van=GM_TN_CONTACT

JUST DO THIS ONE THING…
This weekend, do this. Replace every light bulb in your house with an energy saving compact fluorescent bulb (CFB). We’re not going to make some fuzzy math claims about how many cars you’re taking off the road, but it’s clear that this is one of the simplest and most effective things you can to make a huge difference in the amount of fossil fuel electricity you use.

WE COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER
Read the testimony of Auden Schendler, Aspen Ski Company’s Executive Director, Community and Environmental Responsibility to the U.S. Government. If you weren’t sure how climate change is affecting our lifestyle, please read this: www.aspensnowmass.com/environment/images/ASC_House_Climate_Testimony.pdf

HELP US HELP THE CLIMATE
When you’re out this winter, do us a favor and look around the resort to see how they’re addressing climate change. Since ski resorts use a huge amount of energy (especially in light winters) it’s important that they do everything they can to mitigate their energy usage. Tell them you’re a POW member and ask why they’re not doing more. Let us know too - we want to know which resorts are making a true commitment.
