One of the downsides to snowboard vacations is all that gear you have to haul around. We picked out a few of the 2005 bags and packs that will help you make those treks without too many backaches.

Product: Burton - Duplex Hiker
PR Blurb: The fully-featured Duplex Hiker unites comfort and convenience with style. The horizontally divided main compartment lets you throw food and water in the bottom section, while keeping your camera, books and extra layers safe and secure above. If you’re carrying larger loads, unzip the divider panel to make one main compartment. Whether you’re on your way to the hill or just cruising around town, the sound pocket keeps the music alive. From snow to asphalt, the Duplex Hiker provides two ways for you to carry your board or skate so you have it when you need it. Because you never know what your day will bring, quick-access pockets on the waist harness keep your goods within reach, and hydration capabilities help fight thirst.
SBG Comments: This is a super sweet looking pack. The compartmentalization allows you to separate your stuff when you need to, or if you don’t need it, unzip it and just cram all your gear in. The contours on Burton’s 05 packs really fit well on your back, and the straps seem like they were made to become part of your shoulders.
Product: Burton - Wheelie Locker
PR Blurb: Put through hell and back by our globetrotting team, the Wheelie Locker is the toughest, most capable board bag available. To keep up with the endless abuse, we reinforced each end with a compression-molded base that’s lightweight and highly abrasion-resistant. Then we rounded every corner to prevent them from blowing out when packed to the limits. The double-weave bomber fabric won’t shred when violated by some disgruntled luggage mishandler. The Double Deck construction is padded to the point of insanity, keeping your boards safe in the lower storage, while the compartmentalized upper deck keeps street clothes separated from on-snow gear.
SBG Comments: While this is one of those bags that you can easily pack so full that the airlines won’t let you bring it on the airplane, Burton has done the amazing this with this bag. It is the lightest full-size board bag we saw this year, and shaving those extra pounds off the bag allows you to put more gear in the bag. The Double Deck design is well designed, basically the bag zips in half; you can get to your boards without unpacking everything that is on top of them.
Product: CamelBak - SnoAngel (W)
PR Blurb: CamelBak’s new SnoAngel is designed specifically for women boarders. The uniquely shaped Women’s Harness carries 50 ounces of hydration comfortably, while the sternum straps adjust perfectly to your fit. Low-profile enough to wear under or over your jacket, the SnoAngel is a girl’s best friend on the mountain.
SBG Comments: A common complaint among girls who use CamelBak hydration systems is that the straps are designed for broader shoulders, and that they don’t fit a woman’s frame as well. CamelBak’s solution was to design a harness specifically for the female body, and according to the female review team that tried it on, it is much improved. The shoulder in the pack is narrowed and then the straps are molded to form around the chest and taper back down to the waist.
Product: Dakine - Ridge
PR Blurb: Don’t let the ultra-clean profile fool you. Loaded with all the backcountry features, teardrop silhouette for stability and back access for easy entry. Hitch to the hill, hike your favorite lines, and hit the bar on the way home.
SBG Comments: Dakine is always adding packs to their line, and the Ridge looks to be a winner. I like the way Dakine included a ton of features, but concealed them so the pack retains that clean profile.
Product: Dakine - Split Convertible
PR Blurb: The Split Convertible includes all of the features that have been present in the previous iterations of the Split Roller, but it adds a zipper that allows you to remove the top half from the bottom. Features high quality urethane wheel and a retractable handle.
SBG Comments: I included the Split Convertible because I like how it zips in half. As airlines get more and more strict about weight limits, bags like the Split Convertible help riders get all of their gear to and from a vacation, without incurring the extra baggage costs.
Product: Drop - Wildcats Pack
PR Blurb: Features include: Vertical board carry straps with durable non slip panels. Beefy, padded mesh horizontal board carrying back panel and waist lumbar with zip pockets, and Dual Density foam mesh shoulder straps. Neoprene shovel blade pocket and two quick release shovel handle/tool holders. Mesh goggle/wet glove pocket, iPod pocket with headphone cord gusset, easy access phone/beacon pocket, and small side pockets accessible while wearing pack. Compression load stabilizers at hips and shoulders. A waterproof film keeps foam back panel dry and light. There is a collapsible padded waterproof six pack / Wet stuff compartment
SBG Comments: The Drop team redesigned their Wildcat’s Pack to make it one of the best backpacks on the market. Many of its features are fresh out of Drop’s R&D department.. This bag is a great new option for riders who want quick and easy access to the gear they have on their back.
Product: K2 - Tech Roller
PR Blurb: Maximum legal carry-on capacity, the Tech Roller is our team’s favorite bag. They don’t leave home without it. Quality pull-out handle and smooth-rolling wheels make it easy to travel with. A seatback organizer quickly detaches from bag and fits onto any tray-table. It is designed to hold all the aircraft and travel necessities including electronics, headphones, and reading and writing materials. Huge easy-to-pack panel internal compartment avoids the hassle of a duplex design.
SBG Comments: This bag is cool. It will easily hold most of the stuff you need for a couple day trip to the mountains, and it still fits in the above-head compartments. They truly thought of everything, and crammed it into a carry-on sized case.
