Introduction to Grabs:
Learning to grab your board is a big step from airing over jumps, but it’s a great way to improve your style when you’re in the air. Before you start grabbing, you should be comfortable going over jumps, getting some air, and landing. This article will go through some of the basic steps and teach you some of the terminology you’ll want to know. Soon you’ll be grabbing like a pro, and you’ll even know which grabs you’re doing. Continue reading…
How to Ride a Lift for the First Time:
This is a basic tutorial to riding the lift. Ideally you would learn this by taking a lesson; going with a friend or family member can be disastrous! However we recognize that sometimes taking a lesson isn’t an option, and one of the biggest challenges that completely turns people off to snowboarding can be lift riding. Continue reading…

Andreas Wiig- A Quick Interview with the Backcountry Machine
Andreas Wiig is a driven, powerful snowboarder who’s smooth style stands out on all types of terrain. Snowboarding first captured Andreas at a young age in Norway where rough snow and ice conditions did not deter him from learning, but instead pushed him to focus himself and thrive in any condition. Now, in his professional career, he takes snowboarding to a new level. He charges anything he is going to hit and does it with machine-like force and precision. Andreas spends time in both Norway and the US and continues to be an inspiration to many worldwide. If you aren’t lucky enough to catch up with him on a snowboard, you may find him bartending in wild Alaska. Continue reading…

Well wasted time, an interview with Kevin Sansalone
I’m not sure exactly when I first heard of Kevin Sansalone, but it would have been around 15 years ago when I was growing up in Alaska, riding for a snowboard dealer who’s primary brand was Option. That shop sponsorship was my means to accessing Option pro-forms, and at start of every season a new Kevin Sansalone pro model would appear in the mail. At that point in time Kevin was holding down banger-filled parts in Alterna Action films like The Struggle and Still Struggling, movies that can still hold their own against the onslaught of modern videos. Since then, he’s expanded his role to encompass pretty much every aspect of the snowboard industry, juggling between riding, producing, and starting new ventures. Last week Kevin sat down with SBG to fill us in on life and his latest flick “Time Well Wasted.” Continue reading…

08-09 On Snow Demos at Keystone, CO:
Snowboarder Guide just spent a blustery two days testing 08-09 equipment at the WWSRA “on snow” event in Keystone, CO. Strong winds and blowing snow didn’t stop me from getting on some of the boards I have been interested in riding. Unfortunately, due to time and weather, I completely missed several companies. The boards I chose to ride were based either on my own interest or on feedback I had heard from fellow shredders that invoked in me a specific curiosity about certain boards. Continue reading…

2005 Snowboard Preview
Some of the boards we picked for this preview are here because of their innovations in design or materials. Boards like Burton’s T6, K2’s Riser Recon, and Volkl’s Selecta are trying new things and attempting to change the way we ride. Others, like the Burton’s Shaun White and Forum’s Warrior, are included because we were just captured by them at the tradeshow. Whatever the reason for our including them, all the boards in this preview are worth keeping an eye out for come winter. Continue reading…
2005 Binding Preview
In the past bindings have often been overlooked in the style department, and thought of more as just the means to attach feet to a board. However, the last couple of years have seen some tremendous progression in both the materials and the design of bindings. 2005 pushes this even farther, with many companies deciding to really focus on binding design, and the results are incredible. Visible this year is the “capstrap” that has everyone talking, a focus on quick-entry bindings, and new technology crammed into every bolt-hole. Here are some bindings that we think will be all the rage in 2005. Continue reading…
2005 Helmet Preview
Helmets, those terribly bulky, unstylish, blocks of plastic that some lame-o’s wear to protect their noggins. Well, you can go ahead and trash that preconception, the helmets of 2005 look nothing like the ugly, inefficient headwear of the past. For ‘05, companies have redoubled their efforts to make helmets fit comfortably, look stylish, and even sound good, with the addition of headphones. Continue reading…
